Blog: Rishi Sunak latest: More cash will help NHS ‘get on with the job’, says PM – The Telegraph

Downing Street has insisted Rishi Sunak and Jeremy Hunt are in agreement on Brexit after the Prime Minister rubbished claims that the Government was considering pushing for a Swiss-style deal with the EU.

Asked if the premier and the Chancellor are entirely on the same page on Brexit, the PM’s Official Spokesman said “absolutely”.

Mr Hunt set hares running last week when he said he had “great confidence that over the years ahead we will find outside the single market we are able to remove the vast majority of the trade barriers that exist between us and the EU”.

Senior government figures then suggested at the weekend that bespoke Swiss-style arrangements could be sought with the EU, potentially forcing Britain to align with the bloc’s rules and regulations.

The suggestion that the UK could move politically closer to Brussels in order to boost trade sparked a backlash from Tory Brexiteers who have demanded assurances that the original divorce deal would not be softened.

Mr Sunak this morning tried to kill off speculation about a potential Swiss-style deal, telling the CBI conference: “On trade, let me be unequivocal about this. Under my leadership the United Kingdom will not pursue any relationship with Europe that relies on alignment with EU laws.”
