Downing Street deputy-chief of staff is believed to have told his colleagues to “leave the room” unless they believe Brexit will still be central to the next general election.
David Canzini. Boris Johnson’s deputy chief of staff, told colleagues in Downing Street: “Anyone who doesn’t think the next election is about Brexit should leave the room.”
The Government has been pushing harder on its Brexit agenda as it readies for the Wakefield by-election.
Boris Johnson has also been under pressure from his own Tory MPs to leave his post before the end of his term.
The next general election is in two years.
Mr Johnson will be under increased pressure to prove Brexit has been completed and that his levelling-up promises for the north of England have been kept.
