Politics feasts on division, and its appetite is voracious. On any given issue, the default position is likely to be: ‘This is how we are different.’ In focusing on what divides us, though, politics can blur that which unites us.
At Best for Britain, we know this because of the extensive research we’ve undertaken as we considered our future role. Since the UK left the EU, we have been asked repeatedly what Best for Britain’s purpose is in the post-Brexit world. We were set up as a reactive campaign in response to an emergent threat to Britain’s place in the world, and we are now a proactive organisation that will stand up against a decline in internationalist values happening again.
