Imagine, if you can, a parallel Britain where a virus had never invaded and now imagine this weekend’s news coverage, shorn of the Covid-related news that’s pushing every other story to the margins. What would be dominating the headlines?

It would have to be Brexit. This would surely be the biggest thing around. For years we’ve been arguing about what would happen, and our country has risked so much in making this leap. Now comes the real thing, the thing Leavers have fought for.

So how, in this imaginary Covid-free Britain, is that rushed, Christmas “Canada-style” free trade agreement working out nearly two months later? Where are the problems? Where are the emerging opportunities? The “teething” problems would be filling today’s business and financial pages.
