The attacks on the government’s Internal Markets Bill, mostly from the same MPs who have virulently attacked everything Brexit-related for the past four years, could cause serious harm to some of the UK’s most left-behind communities.

Brexit-sceptics on the Conservative benches should be particularly worried about the impact their global-Britain bashing will have on the electoral prospects of many of their 2019 intake colleagues, as well as their own party’s chances at the ballot box.

The “blue wall” voters, many of whom voted Conservative for the first time in 2019 will not tolerate the party they put in government backing down in the face of pressure from the European Union and they will never forgive attempts by members of that party to leave Britain’s institutions
